The province is treating this year’s drought as an emergency.
They’ve given out $700,000 in bottled water for municipalities to give to those with dry wells.
Emergency management minister Kim Masland says dry weather is becoming predictable.
“Drought conditions are no longer a one-off. We have to make sure we have the programs and policies in place for homeowners in these communities,” said Masland after Cabinet Thursday.
She says the bottled water program is to meet the need this year only.
Opportunities and social development minister Scott Armstrong says if you’re on income assistance, water delivery can be provided for free.
The province has not asked Ottawa for help.
