A blown lead and a comeback for the Yarmouth Mariners at home.
They picked up three of a possible four points over the weekend, falling 4-3 in overtime to Truro Friday before rallying to beat the Ramblers 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.
Ryder MacQueen and Grayson Pardy scored 17 seconds apart late in the third to seal Sunday’s game.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says they showed confidence.
“It’s a tribute to the players in the room, they didn’t give up, and that’s a good hockey club we were playing. It shows resilience to have a win like that after a tough loss,” said Barron.
That loss to the Bearcats Friday was a heartbreaker, with the game-tying goal coming off a Bearcats’ stick with 8.6 seconds left.
However, the Mariners were able to put that behind them and end their three game losing streak with their third win of the season.
Pardy opened the scoring Sunday, Justin Garneau also lit the lamp and call-up Will Shearer had his first MHL goal, Keegan Warren made 36 saves.
Barron says he had a message for his goalie after the second period, when the Mariners were down 4-3.
“I told Keegan (Warren) to put a stop-sign up, and he did that. Then Pardy and MacQueen had the huge goals. Very proud of those guys.”
The Mariners improved to 3-5-1-0 on the young season.

Injury update:
The Mariners were once again missing veteran forwards Ryan Loveless and Liam Dutcher, along with back-up goaltender Carter Arnold.
“It’s wait and see with those guys. Hoping Loveless will be ready this weekend. Arnold is going to be a little bit, and Dutcher we’ll have to see.”
He praised Will Shearer for jumping up from the Halifax McDonalds and playing a role.
“He played in the top six for us and put up two points over the weekend, very thankful we had him in the line-up.”
The Mariners also wore new pink jerseys for their annual ‘Pink in the Rink’ campaign at Sunday’s game.
The jerseys will be worn at home throughout October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, fans can bid on them.
All proceeds go to the Dr. Edwin Janke Cancer Centre at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
