Who’s going to grab the heaviest tuna?
The 21st annual Wedgeport Tuna Tournament and Festival is underway.
Twenty boats will leave the breakwater wharf Tuesday night to see who’ll get the biggest bluefin.
Tournament president Brandon Doucette says the heaviest ever caught is 796 pounds.
“Hopefully we go over that record, but we’ve had plenty of bluefin in the high 600s and low 700s before. These are really massive, massive fish,” said Doucette.
Weigh-ins will be nightly on the wharf.
On land, events like a pageant, seafood extravaganza and dance in the beer tent are happening.
“The band ‘Shaydid’ from Halifax are going to be in the tent on Saturday night. It’s going to be a great time, and the tournament always draws in lots of people from Yarmouth and beyond.”
