No change is coming for ferry service to Brier Island, Digby County.
Transport Canada recently told the province they’d need to hire an extra staff member to meet federal regulations, or a smaller back-up ferry would have to be used.
The province’s Public Works minister Fred Tilley says an extension has been granted.
“To ensure that service will not be interrupted at the Brier Island ferry, posting are already out there, and we anticipate meeting all of the requirements,” said Tilley.
No word on how long the extension was granted until.
The larger ferries can carry over 20 vehicles, while the smaller one only holds up to seven.
Island residents held a meeting two weeks ago to share concerns about long wait times affecting the tourism season.
