Shelburne’s regional materials and recovery facility is closing.

In a statement, they say it follows a thorough review on the facility’s long-term financial stability, which found about $1 million in upgrades would be needed to keep the facility going.
The station services the towns of Shelburne and Lockeport as well.
Warden Penny Smith says they didn’t make the decision lightly, and they recognize the critical role the staff have played in the area’s waste management.
She says they’re working on alternative options for disposal of materials like metal, lobster traps and yard waste.
The closure is expected to happen at the end of 2025.
