Two men from Yarmouth are part of 500-plus athletes heading to Taekwondo world championships.
Dan Wiese and Larry Buchanan are both in the 50-plus division at this weekend’s ICTF Open World Championship tournament in Woodbridge, Ontario.
At age 72, Wiese says the sport keeps him young.
“Age is just a number. If you can keep yourself healthy and do things that you love, you’re not aging, you’re just you,” said Wiese.
The two both performed well at the Maritime championships last month, and are both heading to their first worlds.
Buchanan says Muise Taekwondo is a great club in Yarmouth for those looking to get involved.
“I love watching myself grow and continue to be better everyday. I love teaching the kids, there’s lots of laughter and comradarie. It’s great and it keeps us healthy,” said Buchanan.
He’s been at it since 1993, and has watched his daughter excel in the sport too.
