A school to help carry Acadian language and culture into the future.
Over 80 students of the new Ecole Wedgeport sang as a grand opening was held Monday.
The school is built right next to the old one, with colourful hallways, classrooms and spaces.
Students moved into the new pre-primary to Grade 6 school in January, and reviews have been positive.
Argyle MLA Colton LeBlanc says it’s been a long-time coming.
“It was built with some challenges through the pandemic, but he we are celebrating a momentous day, and so many are taking part. I’m really happy and really proud to see this,” said LeBlanc, who took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony with Education minister Brendan Maguire.
Following the opening ceremony, a tour of the new school was held, and families were invited into the old school one more time for pictures and memories.

The site for the project was announced in 2020, construction began in 2022.
Principal Jenn Surette says they’ve received a lot of positive feedback.
“A lot of comments we’ve been hearing is how bright the spaces are. Our hallway spaces are built to be collaborative spaces, we have an art room in the hallway and our library is too. Outside we just got a gaga ball pit, it’s a wonderful space,” said Surette.
She says the modern building allows them to educate in French for years to come.
