The Mariners Centre expansion is more real by the day.
Steel beams have been erected at the site, adjacent to the arena.
The $40 million project will house a swimming pool, fitness centre and walking track.
Expansion committee chair Nicole Albright says crews have done a great job.
“Even though we had more snow this winter than expected, crews plowed through and continued. We are still on track for a fall 2026 opening,” said Albright.
Some of the next steps include walls and roof, and developing the parking area.
The new building will be called the Credit Union Wellness Centre.
Fundraising is also a key aspect of the project, with community and corporate donations already totaling over $9 million.
“Our fundraising team hasn’t even brought out the public campaign yet, and they want to fundraise even more. They’re doing very well.”
Albright, who is also the Warden for the Municipality of Argyle says all of Yarmouth County is talking about the project, and she can’t wait to see the finished building.
She encourages people to use caution at the Mariners Centre property during the work.
