A grand opening for the new Ecole Wedgeport.
About 80 students moved into the pre-primary to Grade 6 school in January.
Principal Jenn Surette says there will be a ceremony Monday at noon at the school.
“We’ll have speeches from some folks, students will perform a song and there will be a ribbon cutting and lots of different things,” said Surette.
After the ceremony, there will be access to the old school next door where families can tour and take pictures.
It’s open for the public to attend.
Surette says it will be a day to reminisce and look forward.
“The old school served us well for so long. For some families, three generations attended the former school. There will definitely be some emotions in leaving that school, but so many are happy about our new space and what it means for the community.”
The new school was announced by the CSAP in 2018, the site for the build was chosen in 2020.
This after a community group highlighted the need for the 60-year-old school to be replaced.
Construction began in 2022.
