The Nova Scotian Acadian games are coming to our area.
Argyle is the host for the 40e Jeux regionaux de la Nouvelle-Ecosse.
Over 800 athletes are taking part in several sports and events over the Victoria Day weekend.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event, it’s free for the public to watch.
Organizing committee president Chris Frotten says the athletes and staff are ready.
“It’s the culmination of months of preparations and it’s really excited when they get here, they have chants and their songs as well. We are really excited to get everything going,” said Frotten.
The opening ceremony takes place at Mariners Centre Friday night, events are being held at different schools throughout Argyle, along with the recreation centre in Hebron.
Sports include track and field, badminton, soccer, volleyball and even ultimate frisbee.
There’s also improv and culinary competitions, all events incorporate Acadian language and culture.
“It’s been 19 years since Par-en-Bas has hosted the smaller games. We say smaller because the winners of these games and competitions go on to the Finale Jeux de l’Acadie in New Brunswick later this year.”
The Argyle region hosted the Finale games in 2012.
