A new medical clinic and school for foreign workers is coming to Yarmouth.
The old high school on Parade Street will be the site, it’s been empty for over a dozen years.
Town council passed second reading last week to allow the work to proceed.
Mayor Pam Mood says they’re thrilled to see a use for the building.
“Healthcare is top of mind for everyone, so turning this into a facility that will train people and keep them in our community, it’s a win-win for everybody,” said Mayor Mood.
The town had plans a few years ago to turn the building into mixed housing, but the deal fell through due to high post-pandemic costs.
Mood says developers are choosing Yarmouth for housing in other parts of town.
“Housing and healthcare are tremendously important, either one is a win for our area. After COVID costs on construction tripled, I think it is settling now a little bit.”
No word on when work at the site will begin.
