Work on Yarmouth’s new emergency department is about to start.
The province announced construction will begin this week.
It will double the amount of patients to 30, have room for four ambulances and be able to provide more care for the Tri-Counties, sooner.
Yarmouth MLA Nick Hilton says it’s an exciting moment for the region.
“It’s really going to shine a light, good and bad, on the need here in the community. It’s also going to create more recruitment opportunities,” said Hilton.
The total cost of the project will be finalized once construction is complete.
Hilton says recruitment efforts already underway are expected to pay off.
“We have graduates from some different programs in Nova Scotia. We’re going to see our unattached patient list drop significantly over this term.”
The new department is expected to open in 2027.
