A big playoff game for the Western Hurricanes.
They host The Novas on Saturday night at Mariners Centre, looking to advance to provincials.
Associate coach Paul MacDonald says eight players on the U15 Major team are from the Yarmouth area, and they draw from Clare to Hubbards.
“It’ll be a good boost for the players. Some of these kids eventually move on to play South Shore Mustangs U18 Major, and some even get to become a Junior A Mariner,” said MacDonald.
The Hurricanes took Game 1 of the series 3-0 in Antigonish last Saturday.
MacDonald says they’ve been playing inspired hockey as of late.
“Three weeks ago we were in 10th place in the league, now we’re in 6th and secured home-ice advantage. We hope to use that to our advantage this weekend. The players have really bought into the system that we’ve put in.”
If the Novas win Game 2, a third and deciding game would be played Sunday morning at 11:30 in Yarmouth.
The local players on the Western Hurricanes include Dyson Ogden, Riley Saulnier, Patrick Gosling, Phillip Richard, Chase d’Entremont, Chase Corkum, Martin Blinn and Taylor Stoddart.
