A few road reminders from your local RCMP.
Incidents like speeding, cellphone usage and impaired driving continue to happen in the Tri-Counties.
Cst. Greg Bowie with Southwest Traffic Services says he’s noticed quite a few who still don’t wear their seatbelt.
“Physics come into play if there’s an accident. That’s what the seatbelt is designed for, to keep you in place so you don’t hit your head off the windshield or get ejected from the vehicle. It’s there for your safety,” said Cst. Bowie.
He says increased patrols are happening on seatbelts and cellphone usage while driving.
“Almost every car nowadays has Bluetooth capability. There’s a lot of talk to text features in vehicles. But we do still see people driving with their heads down and texting on their phones.”
Cst. Bowie also reminds you of the ‘Move Over’ law when you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road.
You have to slow down to 60 kilometres an hour if you’re on the highway, and move into the other lane if it’s safe to do so.
He also reminds you to clear snow and ice off your car completely before driving.
