A chilly New Year’s Day tradition continues in Yarmouth.
The 18th annual Polar Bear Dip at Lake Milo is happening at noon.
That’s when brave swimmers go for a dip, it’s a fundraiser for Yarmouth firefighters.
Organizer Alec Pitt says you just have to walk in.
“I’m one of the older participants, and in my experience it’s best to just walk in. I take my time, I don’t shock myself. If you run in and out, chances are you’ll freeze up a bit more,” said Pitt.
Pitt adds they raise about $2,000 a year, the money will be presented to the firefighters at their next meeting.
He says they’ve had up to 45 people take part at once, and as few as three.
“I have no idea what to expect this year,” adds Pitt.
He just hopes a lot of people come out, and make a donation.
