A local group is once again raising awareness about domestic violence.
Juniper House’s annual ‘Purple Ribbon’ campaign remembers all women who have been lost to violence.
Juniper House is a 15-bed shelter for women and their children leaving abusive relationships, with outreach offices in the Tri-Counties.
Three women in the province have recently died in domestic incidents, including one in Yarmouth.
Executive director of Juniper House Lisa Newell-Bain says the tragedies have created conversations.
“These tragedies have brought the issue into regular conversations with folks. People are discovering what resources there are as well,” said Newell-Bain.
Wearing a purple ribbon until December 10 shows your support for abused women and their children.
December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
It’s also the 35th anniversary of the Ecole Polytechnique tragedy in Montreal, where 14 women were shot and killed.
Newell-Bain says they’re available 24/7 for support, and can contact Juniper House anonymously.
