Big plans for the former Yarmouth high school.
A developer wants to turn the vacant building on Parade Street into a medical clinic and training facility for foreign healthcare professionals.
An open house was held at Yarmouth town hall on Wednesday, where the developer presented the plan to about 60 in attendance.
Deputy Mayor Steve Berry says the building has sentimental meaning for many in the community.
“To see it repurposed for educational purposes would be great, and just to see it fixed up. It would be great for our area, and I’m really happy to see it through hopefully until the end,” said Berry.
He says it will have to go to the Planning Advisory Committee next, and then through council for approval.
“We would have a public hearing at council, and then hopefully vote it through and pass it. Then the plan could get rolling once we approve it.”
Berry adds if all goes according to plan, the developer would like to start construction next year, and be open in 2026.
