A big win before a long stretch away from home for the Yarmouth Mariners.
They scored two-quick third period goals to down the Valley Wildcats 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Mariners Centre.
Jared Pitman had two goals including the winner and Carter Arnold made 47 saves.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron praised his young goaltender.
“Carter Arnold was fabulous all the way through. For a 17-year-old kid to have the poise in net to grab the team and carry them through, that was huge for us,” said Barron.
The Mariners have won four of their last five and sit in third place in their division.
The loss came to Campbellton 6-4 at home on Friday night, where the Mariners gave up a one-goal lead late.
Barron says his squad are a hard-working group.
“Sometimes when we try to get too cute, that’s what gets us in trouble. When we play high-percentage hockey, we’re very good. We just need to find a way to do that for 60 minutes.”
They’ve got six straight games on the road, starting Saturday in Summerside.
