Hockey season is here again in Yarmouth.
Thirty-seven players are in camp with the Junior A Mariners, aiming to make the September 13 opening night roster.
Intersquad games are scheduled for this weekend.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says he’ll be putting the puzzle pieces together.
“We only have from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon to get down to 24-25 players. We don’t have a ton of time, so all of these practices and intersquad games are very important,” said Barron.
The Mariners have made several trades and signings leading up to camp, and Barron predicts an exciting season ahead.
Yarmouth were eliminated in the first round of the MHL playoffs in five games by Summerside last season, they finished fourth in the Eastlink South Division.
The team has 13 returning players on their camp roster, including locals Jared Pitman, Sam Hope, Dawson O’Connell and Lucien LeBlanc.
The intersquad games are free for the public to watch, they go Friday and Saturday night at 7 and Sunday afternoon at 1.
The Mariners will host the Valley Wildcats in a preseason game Friday, September 6.
They’ll open the regular season against the Pictou County Crushers at home on Friday, September 13.
