Nova Scotia has it’s first gold medal of the Canada Winter Games.
Gassan Alkurdi of Halifax won gold in the male Kumite tournament, while Evan Peddle of Dartmouth took silver.
Mikayla German of Dartmouth won bronze in a female Kumite event.
On the slopes, Malcolm Farris of Brookfield took bronze in Big Air Freestyle Skiing.
It’s the first ever medal for Nova Scotia in that event.
The games are being held on PEI.

Evan Peddle (Hammonds Plains), Gassan Alkurdi (Halifax) & Mikayla German (Dartmouth) dominated in Kumite. Evan claimed silver & Gassan took gold in Kumite 61 kg Male. Mikayla German landed a bronze in Kumite 51 kg Female.
