Nova Scotia’s Liberal leader is reacting to yesterday’s announcement on emergency rooms.
Zach Churchill says he’s happy to see government is talking about expanding the role of pharmacists, and his party has been pushing for that, especially in rural areas.
He says there continues to be concern around emergency departments and vacancies in staffing.
“We have vacancy rates upwards of 80 percent in some hospitals. I think filling new jobs is going to be a real challenge when we can’t fill the ones that we already have in the system,” says Churchill.
The province says staff will be added to monitor waiting rooms and provide more check-ins on people waiting to be seen.
Churchill says more support in ER’s is vital.
