A nursing shortage is impacting Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
According to numbers released by the province, the hospital has a nearly 60 per cent vacancy rate for the position.
Yarmouth MLA and Liberal leader Zach Churchill says nurses and the hospital are vital to the Tri-Counties.
“This is a very concerning trend that we’re seeing. The situation has never been worse. We need the Premier and government to step up and make the right decision, so that we don’t have these staffing shortages in our hospitals,” says Churchill.
He says with all the pressure on our ER’s, pharmacists need to be utilized more, with training and proper pay.
Churchill says this would take care of people looking for prescription renewals, blood work and lab tests.
