The Canadian Senior Curling Championships were a success in Yarmouth.
Twenty-eight teams and hundreds of people experienced the best the area has to offer.
Rick Allwright with the host committee says the volunteers really helped make it successful.
“We were trying to send some of them home after they worked all day, but they wouldn’t go home. I think volunteers have been a strong asset for a long time in this area, and this event really made that shine through,” says Allwright.
He says Curling Canada were very impressed with how the tournament was hosted, and said it was one of the best they’ve been to.
Allwright says they’re open to hosting more major curling events in the future.
“It’s a great event to have here, and it helps with the shoulder season for tourism, when accommodations and spending are typically down.”
He estimates an economic impact around two million dollars for the area.
