The Southwest Nova Pride Festival is happening next month in Yarmouth.
The event is returning after a hiatus due to the pandemic.
A committee is putting together a host of events, including a fun day in Frost Park, pride karaoke and pride trivia.
Committee member Lynette Hayward-Byrd says it’s also about education.
“The 2SLGBTQ+ community just wants acceptance, and we have to be accepting of everyone,” says Hayward-Byrd.
She says there will be no parade this year, but they’ll look to bring that back next time.
Committee member Alden Mathieu says it’s important to support the pride community.
“It’s not just about feeling welcoming, it can have such an impact on the mental health for those that need that support. We absolutely need to be doing this,” says Mathieu.
The first pride event in Yarmouth was held in 2017.
