The Town of Shelburne is joining other local municipalities in offering the Veterans Memorial Banner Program.
The town has opened 15 spots for families and friends of veterans to have a banner hung along King Street near the Cenotaph.
The banners include a photo and the veteran’s service details.
Mayor Harold Locke discussed what the program will mean to the community.
“We are pleased the town is able to offer the program to commemorate the local veterans in a respectful way,” says Locke. “We’re also pleased that we can offer it to veterans who are serving presently, or have served, or have passed away after service.”
The banners cost $300 and applications will be accepted until 2 p.m. on Tuesday August second.
Locke hopes to expand the program in the coming years.
“That is our hope and I think that will occur, we just are starting out small,” says Locke. “We’ll take all requests, put them in a draw and the first 15 that are drawn will be this year, Next year we’ll go to those who aren’t drawn this time.”
