A new playground and community park will be coming to the Brighton and Barton area.
The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency has invested $105,000 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund for the Brighton and Barton Volunteer Fire Department.
The funds will be used to build an accessible and inclusive playground as well as a community park with green space, picnic tables, garden beds, a gazebo and a walking path.
Vice President of the Fire Department Rachel Skanes says they have a mandate to be a community resource and provide safe spaces.
“We wanted a space that was totally accessible for seniors to get some physical fitness as well as be able to watch their kids on accessible playground structures.”
She added there will also be mental health material to help people enjoy the natural space.
“So amazing to know that anyone in our community, no matter how old they are or what disabilities or mobility issues that they have, they can come to a place where they can participate equally.”
