The Municipality of Clare has released their operating budget for 2022-2023.
The balanced budget comes in at $11,002,412.
One of the biggest expenses is $1,167,323, about 11 percent, for community development. This will include funds for the Congrès mondial acadien Organizing Committee, Festival acadien de Clare and Terra Fondo cycling event.
Another big expense will be $886,389 for public health services. Funds will go towards the Clare Health Centre, the Municipality’s doctor recruitment strategy and affordable housing.
The Municipality is also highlighting the Transport de Clare public transportation service, Welcoming Francophone Communities pilot project and the high-speed Internet installation project.
Warden Yvon LeBlanc shared his thoughts on the budget.
“So far it’s pretty good, it was a lot of work for staff and everyone involved,” says LeBlanc. “It came once again with no increase to the residential or commercial rates so I think it’s a good sign.”
No change in tax rates for citizens of the Municipality of Clare.
The residential tax rate will stay at $1.04 per $100 of assessment while the commercial tax rate remains at $2.07 per $100 of assessment.
LeBlanc is pleased there won’t be a change.
“It gives a little break for everybody. Ours hasn’t budged in a while but it’s always a good feeling for the residents I think that it’s not an extra burden tacked on to them.”
Tax bills can be expected in the coming days. Property owners have until June 30 to pay them.
