A memorial softball tournament this weekend in honour of Hali Graves.
It’s being held at the Hebron Recreation Complex, and is being hosted by the YCMHS Girls team.
Graves passed away at the age of 19 after a motor vehicle accident last September.
Girls team coach Melissa Brown, who taught and coached Graves says she had an incredible passion for softball.
“You have kids that just love the sport, and that was Hali. She was just such a leader for us on the team, and her spirit was really encouraging for the other players,” says Brown.

She says it means a lot to dedicate this event to Graves.
“She played with us in her Grade 9 and 10 year, then we formed teams the next two years, but never got to play due to COVID. This year is the first year we’re allowed to play again, and we’re also doing this in her honour, so it makes it extra special.”
Games take place through the day Saturday and Sunday with seven teams taking the field.
All proceeds from the tournament are going to the Hali Graves Memorial Bursary, which helps students facing financial barriers pursue post-secondary education.
