The developers of Yarmouth’s Main Street Streetscape Project are being recognized nationally.
For their work on the project, Fathom Studio won the Small or Medium Community Urban Design Award, Award of Excellence, at the 2022 National Urban Design Awards.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood shared what the award means to the Town.
“This is absolutely exciting and wonderful for the town and for the whole region. A lot of effort went into that, some great planning, and we’re excited to have been recognized from across Canada.”
Mood says the streetscape project re-imagines the relationship between the community and what Main Street means to people.
“It’s one thing to put in benches and plant some trees but what we did was take our history, the lobster cars and all those pieces, and put them together. This is what draws people to a region, it makes people feel comfortable downtown.”
The 2022 National Urban Design Awards winners are chosen by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, the Canadian Institute of Planners, and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
The streetscape project was completed in the spring of last year.
