The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency announced yesterday that the feds will provide $2 million to help organizations and businesses around Queens, Lunenburg and Shelburne.
Among the projects being funded in Shelburne is the King Street Family Centre. The Town of Shelburne will renovate and modernize the facility, at a cost of $187,500.
Mayor Harold Locke discussed the work that will be done.
“We are thrilled to receive funding to improve some of the structural components of the building,” says Locke. “Replacing the roof and windows, plus installing an accessible entrance are our top priorities for the daycare.”
Meanwhile, the Shelburne Curling Club and Shelburne Historical Society also received funds from the feds.
The Cape Sable Historical Society also received funding and will put the it towards renovating the Old Court House.
They received $112,681.
Museum Director of the Cape Sable Historical Society Samantha Brannen discussed how the funds will be used.
“This will enable us to prepare a building for the long term and restore it to its 1890’s appearance which is attractive to the community. When they drive by we’re right along the side of the road.”
Not far away, the Town of Clark’s Harbour received funds to upgrade its community comfort centre.
