A much needed upgrade for a fire department in Shelburne County.
The Ingomar-Roseway Volunteer Fire Department now has a rescue/utility truck, equipped with the ‘Jaws of Life.’
It was purchased from the Blockhouse Fire Department, thanks to funds from the provincial firefighters 50/50 and capital grants.
Chief Lewis Chetwynd says the truck will suit their needs better than anything they’ve had before.
“The fact that it has a mobile cascade system on it will really benefit us and our neighbouring departments. Having that on scene to help fill our breathing apparatuses will definitely save us some time,” says Chetwynd.
He says the Gunning Cove and Northeast Harbour departments are also excited about the new equipment.
“Neither of those departments have this type of equipment. Having this now centralized will really benefit our departments in Shelburne County.”
Chetwynd says the truck was put to use within an hour of its arrival yesterday, as firefighters responded to a power pole fire.
The truck was used to help barricade the road and keep people out of the area.
