A winter dip to help fill bellies in Clare.
The first annual Polar Surf & Swim was held at Mavillette Beach Provincial Park last weekend, raising $4,600 for the Clare Food Bank.
The event was a partnership between Clare Recreation and The Good Wave Project.
Tori Comeau is Clare’s recreation manager and shared her thanks to everyone involved.
“Everyone who participated, first of all, for braving the cold water. I also want to thank those who donated to us because without them this would not be possible. So we’re hoping people come join us again next year.”
Comeau says while COVID-19 restrictions limited official participation to 25 people, many chose to jump in the water on their own.
She adds the money will be used for more than just food.
“This will go towards a bunch of different items, not only food but they also give out toilettries and different stuff like that,” says Comeau. “We’re hoping this will get them through the winter.”
They’re planning to hold the another Polar Surf & Swim next year, on February 11.
