Christmas has come early for the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
Thanks to a $3 million commitment from the The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, the hospital will be meeting all of its priority equipment needs.
Managing Director Mary Surette says support from the community has been important.
“We’re able to do this not only because of the incredible donation that we received last year but also donations from the whole community,” says Surette. “One of the reasons why we have so many wonderful pieces of equipment in our hospital is because of the whole community coming together and making donations to our foundation.”
Eleven departments will receive equipment, with the largest single purchase being $1.56 million to replace the laparoscopic surgical suites. There will also be $755,000 spent on 15 non-invasive blood-pressure monitoring systems for the Emergency Department and ICU.
Surette says the current equipment has a shelf life.
“And what happens is some of this is nearing its end of life expectancy. The hospital has come to the foundation requesting us to commit to purchasing some of this equipment so we can bring it up to the next level of excellence in healthcare.”
The Foundation recently announced the purchase of five new specialized Ophthalmology stretchers.
