Two major recreation facilities in the Town of Yarmouth will stay open through public health restrictions.
Mariners Centre and ‘Mariners on Main’ are adjusting operations.
The arena will now limit public skating to 30 participants, with no spectators. Children under 12 will need supervision, so a parent or guardian over the age of 18 will need to be on the ice with them.
Mariners on Main will operate at 50 percent capacity, with public swims limited to 15, and lane swims limited to three swimmers per lane.
General Manager Dorgam Hideib says it’s important to keep these spaces open for the community.
“Having access to fitness, and with kids home from school needing to burn off some energy, it was important. We’re very transparent about how we’re operating in these restrictions, keeping our places clean and safe, and then people can make their own decisions,” says Hideib.
He says games or tournaments are not allowed to take place.
“The restrictions limit our ability to host games, but you’ll see some development sessions with minor hockey, and some of our figure skaters on the ice.”
The rink will be closed on Christmas Day, and Mariners on Main will be closed tomorrow until the 26th.
