Another virtual lighting for the Barrington Lobster Trap Christmas tree this year.
It’s scheduled to be held this Friday, weather permitting, at 6 p.m. near the Cape Sable Island Causeway.
Director of Marketing and Tourism for the Municipality of Barrington Suzy Atwood says the tree is possible through many donations.
“We put out a request for donations of either new, or used traps, as long as they were in good shape. The pots have been coming in steady every since our request,” says Atwood.
Atwood says many of the traps and buoys on the tree are in memory of loved ones.
“Now our tree tells a story. It’s more than a Christmas tree full of lobster traps, it’s full of memories. It’s built with a strong presence of our history and heritage, and sense of community. And it’s built with a lot of love.”
She says the tree has gained momentum and drawn lots of attention since the first lighting in 2009.
Viewers can watch live on the Visit Barrington Facebook page, with musical entertainment, letters to Santa and more.
Atwood says they chose to go virtual this year to be on the safe side with COVID regulations.
