Halloween is almost upon us. Last week I checked out a couple of scary TV shows streaming on Netflix, “Midnight Mass” and “The Haunting of Hill House”, both put together by the same guy, Writer/Director/Producer Mike Flanagan. He’s a gifted guy, who has made a few scary movies and continues to make scary TV too. He’s also responsibly for “The Haunting of Bly manor”, and is now turning his eye on the works of Edgar Allen Poe.
Both shows were very good, especially “Midnight Mass” which was engaging, somewhat surprising, and really scary, and it got me thinking about scary TV shows of the past.
As a kid Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone captured my imagination, but his 70’s show “Night Gallery” scared the heck out of 8-year-old me.

There was another show that made a huge impression on me as a kid. Do you remember “Kolchack: the Night Stalker”?

Kolchack lead directly to a program that fascinated, and sometimes scared, “the X-Files”

There have been plenty more. The “American Horror Story” series had it’s moments, although I’m not a huge fan of all the seasons. Unlike many, I never really liked “The Walking Dead” at all, although many did.
“Supernatural” anyone? Not really scary, but I loved that series. And the original “It” was of course a mini-series in it’s original form. As much as I loved that at the time, I watched it a few years back and found it not quite as good as I remember.
