If you heard a loud noise last night in Yarmouth, your wonders can be put to rest, it was the 84th Independent Field Battery.
The unit in Yarmouth held a ceremonial firing last night, a one round salute to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the the Canadian Corps. of Artillery.
Battery Commander, Captain Peter Andrews, discussed why its important to hold the firing.
“Traditions and history of the Canadian Armed Forces is critical to connecting with our past and connecting with our future,” says Andrews. “It’s a significant milestone to be celebrating a 150th anniversary.”

The salute was performed by each artillery unit across Canada in sequence from East to West.
Andrews says they will be putting together a video montage to share online.
Warrant Officer Nicholas Robicheau says another important anniversary was celebrated this week.
“The fourth of October is the battery’s birthday,” says Robicheau. “The battery officially is 143 years old but it does have ties back to protecting the Yarmouth harbour back to 1812.”
The one round salute at the Yarmouth battery was held around 6:30 p.m. last night.
