I miss Zellers. I really do. It was a great store back in the day and the Anchor of the Yarmouth Mall/ And I’m old enough to remember Zellers downtown, and running down to the bottom floor where there not only was a toy department, but a pet department with a Myna Bird that talked! (I think it was a Myna Bird)
You may remember when Hudson’s Bay sold off Zellers to the US based Target Stores, their attempt to bring the Target brand to Canada, and it’s utter failure.
Hudson’s Bay owns the rights to the Zellers chain, and the stores that were still standing just last year in Ontario were basically a shell of what they once were. The last Zellers closed in Ontario in 2020.
Within the Hudson’s Bay store in Burlington Ontario Zellers has reopened as a pop-up shop. A section of the store is now decked out as Zellers, and sells Canadian-themed clothing, accessories, home goods, toys, and more.
Could this be the beginning of a Zellers return?
I for one would be excited to see that, if it were done right. There’s a lot of nostalgia for the brand, and I think Canadians would embrace it with open arms.
Would you be excited to see that happen? What other stores do you miss?
