Nova Scotia is full of many pets, just like anywhere probably. It seems that Nova Scotian’s are in love with their many pets. Even in the city you see lots of people with dogs and cats! Unfortunately, with so many pets around, this can lead to some missing and stray animals.
The biggest population of strays is probably cats. I’m sure you’ve had a stray or lost cat visit you at your home before. I know I have. If you were like me you might not of known what to do or who to call. Turns out there are a few organizations that can help you with stray cats or dogs that you might come across.
The SPCA has a whole section of their website devoted to lost dogs and cats. Check it out HERE. They say to call the local SPCA immediately if the animal is injured but to help the animal anyway if it’s not injured. Simply posting a photo on Facebook or checking with neighbors can sometimes be enough to locate the animals owners. Remember to always look for a collar or any identification. A lot of municipality’s have animal control and shelter programs in place as well. Those numbers are pretty easy to find with a quick Google search or Facebook search.
Have you ever found a lost or stray animal? What did you do and who did you call? End up keeping them?
