Yarmouth Rural RCMP are searching for a missing man and investigating a fire on a remote island near Little River Harbour.
Around 1:50 a.m. this morning, police responded to a call for help from Upper Calf Island. Two men had gone to a camp overnight, which had caught fire. One of the men escaped the camp but could not find the other man.
Police say the fire burned itself out.
The Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre dispatched a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and the CCGS Clarkes Harbour to rescue the man who escaped the fire and begin searching for the second man. They also transported police to the island.
The first man was transported to local hospital via helicopter for assessment. The search for the second man is ongoing.
RCMP are being assisted by the RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office.
The cause of the fire is being investigated and police say they will provide further information when it becomes available.
