Three municipal units in Shelburne County are teaming up to form an accessibility plan.
The Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Advisory Committee is made up of councillors, staff and community members of the town and municipality of Shelburne, and the town of Lockeport.
They’ve issued a request for proposals to help develop a plan, which the province is requesting all municipalities do by April of next year.
Adam Dedrick, Director of Recreation and Parks for Shelburne says the group has been looking at the barriers that exist, and how to address them.
“Not just physical barriers, infrastructure, information and communication, goods and services, transportation, there are a lot of things being considered in the plan,” said Dedrick.
Once the consultants come up with the plan, each municipal unit will adapt to their own needs.
“There will be community consultations and reviews of each municipalities practices. The consultants will gather the data and each municipality will take a look at it for approval.”
Dedrick says once this is done, the committee will continue their work to help the province achieve its goal of being fully accessible by 2030.
