Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood is announcing the passing of Councillor James “Jim” MacLeod on behalf of his family and the town.
“Jim MacLeod was one of a kind, he touched the lives of everyone he met. He encompassed the good of Yarmouth,” says Mood. “We all knew Jim because he walked every square inch of this town smiling, saying hello and treating everyone with kindness and dignity, a true gentlemen. Our sincere condolences to Jim’s wife Dawn and his entire family. Please know that we loved him and his legacy certainly lives on.”
MacLeod graduated as a pharmacist from Dalhousie University in 1967. He co-owned and operated Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave in Yarmouth from 1987 to 2013.
He previously served on town council in the 1980’s and 90’s. MacLeod served on council again for the past two terms.
“He never shied away from the work that was done for his community,” says Mood. “Jim was in my office every single work day for eight years asking me how it was going and what he could do to help. He cared about everybody. He would always, no matter who he would mention, he would refer to them as ‘my friend’.”
A small family service will be held for MacLeod.
