The leaders of the province’s two main political parties have given their comments on the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick border blockade.
Protesters have stopped traffic from coming over the border since Tuesday evening.
After a spending announcement in Lunenburg early Wednesday afternoon, Premier Iain Rankin said he has no intention to lift border restrictions early because of the protest.
“I think one more week is fair for Dr. Strang and the Public Health team to ask as we continue to move forward with a soft, slow reopening.” he said. “We’re going to continue to have the measures we have in place, and I’m looking forward to welcoming New Brunswick into the bubble, if all goes well, on June 30.”
Rankin surprised residents on both sides of the border when he announced additional restrictions for travellers between New Brunswick and our province at Tuesday’s COVID-19 briefing.
Meantime, Tim Houston, leader of the province’s official opposition Progressive Conservatives, said the premier is flip-flopping.
He said New Brunswick has had a clear plan on their reopening for weeks and he doesn’t understand what changed Tuesday.
Houston said he doesn’t agree with the border blockade, but does understand the protestors’ frustration.
