Lobster fishing season is coming to a close today.
Coldwater Lobster Association President Bernie Berry says that catches were good despite a late start.
“There was some concern that we might have missed some fishing activity but January was a very good, weather-wise, month,” says Berry. “Some of the days that we missed in the early part of December because of the weather closure, we caught up in January.”
The start of the season had been delayed until December 8th.
He discussed prices during this season.
“The price was very strong, it opened at $7,” says Berry. “Through most of the winter it was between $11, $12 and $13. We finished up at $8. Price-wise, it was good.”
He says the seafood industry rebounded quickly during the pandemic.
