COVID-19 testing at the Mariners Centre has temporarily been suspended.
There was confusion this morning when many people arrived at the Mariners Centre with an appointment and were not able to get tested.
Nova Scotia Health Public Engagement Officer Fraser Mooney explained why they had to close the site.
“Last week, provincially, we realized we had a backlog in testing across the province,” said Mooney. “We had to reassess some of our primary assessment centers and the decision was made to close, temporarily, the testing center at the Mariners Centre.”
Mooney also explained where the province is with processing the tests.
“The backlog of testing across the province has essentially been cleared up. There was a lot of work over the weekend, across the province, to clear up all the tests,” said Mooney. “we’re looking right now at our testing strategy and the plan is to reintroduce testing at the Mariners Centre in the near future.”
Those who were not able to get a COVID-19 test today are asked to book one at the Visitor Information Centre in Yarmouth. A technical issue allowed people to book COVID-19 tests at the Mariners Centre today. Mooney says a small team has been dispatched to the Mariners Centre to allow the rest of the tests scheduled for today to be completed.
Anyone with an appointment for a COVID-19 test at the Mariners Centre from this point on can still be tested today.
