The budgets for this fiscal year have been approved by the Municipality of Barrington.
At last night’s council meeting an operating budget of $8.6 million and capital budget of $4.9 million were approved.
Warden Eddie Nickerson shared his feelings on the budgets.
“It’s challenging times and with COVID-19 the budgets are still going to reflect that. Overall we feel very good about it,” said Nickerson. “The budget takes into consideration a lot of developments and capital projects that are going to go through this year.”
He discussed the priorities in the budget.
“The recreation center is a priority. Our beach developments are a priority, also the sewer is a must. We definitely need to do that, and the municipal building. We’re just relocating from one section to the other and there’s going to be some substantial upgrades there.”
The residential tax rate increased to $1.05 per $100 of assessment while the commercial tax rate stayed the same at $2.56 per $100 of assessment.
