Former Nova Scotia premier Stephen McNeil will resign his seat in the legislature on May 3.
McNeil’s resignation announcement came only one day after the Liberals passed their budget and the spring sitting of the Nova Scotia legislature concluded.
Today, I gave notice to the Speaker’s Office that effective May 3rd, I will resign my seat as MLA for Annapolis. pic.twitter.com/eRAXE0yhaO

McNeil spent almost two decades as the MLA for Annapolis and seven as premier as his party won back to back majority’s.
“I want to thank the people of Annapolis for giving me the privilege of representing them for almost two decades. It was an honour to serve as Premier for the past seven, and equally as important to me to be the MLA for Annapolis.”
His resignation leaves the governing Liberals with a razor-thin one-seat majority and adds to election speculation in the province.
Nova Scotia does not have a fixed election date but one must be called before May of next year.
