A forest fire in the Clyde River area is being attended to by the Department of Lands and Forestry.
It has been dubbed the Goose Lake Fire. Crews are working at putting out the hotspots. The fire is currently being held, and just after noon 30% of the perimeter had been contained.
Calls came in about the fire around 2 p.m. yesterday. By the end of the day the fire had spread to become 4 hectares.
Manager of forest protection for Shubenacadie, Scott Tingley, discussed what may have caused the fire.
“Most likely it would have been some form of human caused fire,” said Tingley “We’re not aware of any lightning in the area, so that puts it into the human cause but we don’t know specifically how.”
The department is investigating the cause of the fire.
Tingley says it’s not anticipated that the fire will grow anymore based on the current and forecasted conditions. Rain showers have started in the area.
There are no injuries being reported.
