After more than a year and a half as acting chief, Mike Deveau will become the chief of the Yarmouth Fire Department.
The town of Yarmouth announced that Deveau would be taking the job as chief today. He discussed the job and the opportunities it presents.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to continue to serve the community and make sure that the sustainability of my volunteer and career staff continues into the future,” said Deveau. “I’m looking forward to getting into this and making sure that we do the right thing for the community.”
He also outlined what his priorities will be as fire chief.
“My priorities moving forward are, initially, going to be to continue my plan to bolster our volunteer resources as well as make sure that all of my staff and volunteers are looked after.”
The position had been open since the retirement of Chief John Verrall in 2019. Deveau filled the role as acting fire chief after his retirement.
Deveau began his fire career in 2004 as a volunteer. After a few years he was promoted to Lieutenant and two years after that, to Captain. He then moved on to become Assistant Deputy Chief, then Deputy Chief.
