A 24-year-old fisher from Yarmouth is in hospital after suffering serious injuries on the job over the weekend.
Andrew Saulnier was airlifted to a Halifax hospital after getting caught up in the engine area of a boat in southwestern Nova Scotia.
The gruesome injury took place early Saturday morning in Argyle in Yarmouth county.
According to a GoFundMe page, Saulnier has a long road to recovery and already has had two surgeries on his legs, which were severely injured.
The post goes on to say the outcome is uncertain and he may lose both legs.
Fundraising efforts are taking place throughout Shelburne and Yarmouth counties as Saulnier has a two-year-old daughter, a three-year-old step son and another baby on the way.
More than $23,000 has been raised through the GoFundMe campaign.
“Andrew has a very long road ahead of him. Andrew brought in the money for his family. There will be lots of travelling to and from the city. This money will be used for medical expenses, food, gas and whatever else they may need in the time to come,” organizer Haley Goreham wrote on the fundraising web page. “The last thing the family should have to worry about right now is money.”
Businesses in the area are also collecting in an effort to help with expenses.
